DEEP PURPLE To Release Archival DVD This Year
October 10, 2005Launch Radio Networks reports: DEEP PURPLE's appearance at the California Jam concert in 1974 should be available on DVD by the end of this year. It features the group's Mark III lineup — with frontman David Coverdale and singer-bassist Glenn Hughes joining guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice — coheadlining the day-long festival at the Ontario Motor Speedway with EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER. Other acts on the bill included BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, BLACK SABBATH, THE EAGLES, EARTH, WIND & FIRE, RARE EARTH, and SEALS & CROFTS. According to a post on the official GlennHughes.com web site, "The DVD will have a bonus track, 'Lay Down Stay Down', plus alternate versions of two tracks with different camera angles." There will also be interview segments, a picture gallery, and unreleased Super 8 millimeter film from the band's motel, from backstage, and from the control tower. No street date has been announced for the U.S., but the DVD should be out in Japan on November 21.
The current DEEP PURPLE lineup — singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Steve Morse, bassist Roger Glover, keyboardist Don Airey, and Paice — will release a new studio album called "Rapture of the Deep" on November 1.
